Mike Sokoloff: Mixing and CP Violation in Charm: Status and Prospects

Description
This talk will cover the underlying physics associated with oscillations of neutral D mesons into their corresponding antiparticles (called mixing) and the possible asymmetries between decays or oscillations of particles on one hand and antiparticles on the other (called CP violation). Determining the relative strong phases of Cabibbo-favored and doubly Cabibbo-suppressed amplitudes can be a key element driving the overall precision of these measurements. It also addresses a fundamental question in hadronic physics — how quarks produced on short distance scales in weak interactions evolve into the mesons detected experimentally.The relationships between complementary types of measurements will be emphasized, along with the interplay of experimental measurements and phenomenology.
