Vava Gligorov: How to not dig yourself a hole: searching for long-lived particles at LHCb

Most theories of the microscopic world result in particles with very long lifetimes, but these long lifetimes also make such particles very hard to detect. Because of this, long-lived particles remain one of the least explored regions where physics beyond the Standard Model could be hiding. I’ll give an overview of long-lived particle searches and why they are such a pain, before describing CODEX-b a proposed extension of the LHCb experiment which could greatly increase its sensitivity to long-lived particles.
